Boycott Israel - not the Victims of Occupation!

Resolution adopted by the 17th Annual Conference (Congress) of Enhedslisten/the Red-Green Alliance, May 13, 2006

In January the Palestinian Authority held one of the most democratic elections that have taken place in the Middle East. But in practice neither Israel, nor the United States or the European Union recognizes the results of the elections, in which Hamas gained a victory. Israel prevents the transfer of tax revenues to the Palestinian Authority. The United States and the European Union (and Denmark) have introduced an economic boycott of the Palestinian Authority due to the electoral triumph of Hamas, thereby depriving the Authority of the possibility of making civil society function, affecting nurses, midwives, doctors, teachers, and police.

Now, as before, it is up to popular forces to press for changes in the right direction: The Palestinian population and the peace movement in Israel and internationally. The Red-Green Alliance supports the popular struggle against the Wall and the settlements and for an Israeli withdrawal from the occupied territories. A solution of this nature must be based on UN Resolutions 194, 242, and 238. We cooperate with other political forces in Denmark and internationally to achieve these objectives.

Denmark must resume economic support of the Palestinian Authority and respect the outcome of the democratic elections in Palestine.

Massive pressure must be put on Israel from all sides to compel it to enter into negotiations and to reach a peaceful solution with the Palestinian authorities. As part of this endeavour we shall seek to have the Danish Government introduce sanctions on Israel and mobilize pressure to suspend the preferential trade agreement between Israel and the European Union, as long as Israel is violating international law and human rights. We call for an economic and trade boycott of Israel.
