The Red-Green Alliance campaigns for 100 percent renewable energy.
From the 7th to the 20th of December, the eyes of the world will be fixed on Denmark and Copenhagen. The Danish government are going to be hosting the UN climate conference, COP 15. The stage is set for COP 15 to be a crucial round of negotiation - this is where the successor after the Kyoto Protocol is going to be planned. So this is where the countries' targets for fighting climate change from 2012 to 2020 are going to be established.
Therefore, The Red Green-Alliance has launched a climate action plan which key elements are:
- Energy conservation
- 100 % renewable energy
- Renovation of buildings to make them energy efficient
- Make all new buildings CO2-neutral
- City planning
- Public transportation
- Fuel and congestion charges
- Goods transportation by railway
- Ecology and reduced number of livestock
- New green jobs
The plan contains what is actually needed in order for Denmark to do our part in preventing climate change. Urgent action is needed. According to leading scientist, our climate is changing even more rapidly than earlier predicted. Responsible politicians have to act accordingly.
Unfortunately, many things suggest that we are far from stopping the climate change. This is primarily due to the fact that the efforts that have currently been made are based on the belief that minor adjustments are sufficient. The Danish government, not least, are firm believers in the "business as usual doctrine". Danish climate politics is based on the assumption that you can detach growth from greenhouse gas emissions, that you can place the efforts to improve the climate other places than in Denmark and also on the assumption that the poor countries will do their part before we will.
